Welcome!

I started this blog to share my experiences and to educate my readers about life with a spinal cord injury. I've been blind since birth, and a quadriplegic since 2004. I wanted a place where I could write about things that happen, goals I have, and anything else that comes to mind. If you would like to know more about me, you can always read my blog, (feel free to leave comments) and check out my website by clicking here.

Movie Maker Madness

I did a new movie this morning and just started editing it.  I got about halfway through when Windows Movie Maker decided not to let me play the clips anymore!  It’s so annoying!  I was up all night because my guide dog had diarrhea.  She seems to be doing better now though thankfully.  I’m sure it was because she ate different dog food last night.  I’ll never make that mistake again!

I’m going to go have a nap now while I can, and when I wake up I will edit the movie and put it on the site.  It will be up later tonight.  Hope everyone is having a good summer!  Did anyone go on vacation to anywhere interesting?

The Building Barbeque

Tagged Under :

I’m sitting here listening to the group of people outside.  There is a barbeque going on for the people who live in this building.  They just gave some prizes away, and I would like to go out there and meet some of the people that live here but I’m not going to.

I feel so out of place when I’m around the people who live here.  Sure some of them will hold a door open for me, but no one ever says “hi” and they usually do their best to not get near me.  When I’m waiting for an elevator they will either push ahead of me and get on and quickly shut the doors, or stand right in front of the doors to block me.  Or I get on the elevator moving to the side to leave plenty of room but they just don’t get on.  I’ve also had people stare in silence, only to talk about me as the elevator doors were closing when I got off.

There are some nice people that don’t do this, but I still think about the other ones.  I’d go to the barbeque if that was the only thing stopping me.  I mean sure it’s annoying that they treat me that way, but I wouldn’t let that stop me from having a good time.

The thing that is really stopping me is the guy who lives above me.  I feel somehow threatened by him.  I did report him to the conceirge because he was having a really loud party at almost 2am on a weeknight, and he did have a word or two to say about it one evening at the mailboxes.  The thing is, him or another person also left a pretty threatening letter taped to my door awhile after we moved in.  I don’t know for sure who it was because the letter was typed and not signed.  It was left taped to my door for everyone to see with the words facing out into the hallway.  No one knocked on the door and apparently came downstairs sometime in the night and put it there.

This is the real reason I’m not going out there.  I know they know who I am, and I do feel very threatened by it.  I have no idea who they are even if they came right up and started talking to me.  If my boyfriend was here, I’d definetly go because he knows who one of the guys are but there’s no way I’m going out there alone.  They even have a band playing.  I also heard one of the guys who was talking say that over half of the building showed up.  Sigh.

I’ll just try to convince myself that I have to stay home with my service puppy in training so she don’t start howling at the loud music.  I’m sure I’ll get over it in a day or so.

New Story: “A Camping Trip To Remember”

Tagged Under : , ,

Here is a sneak peak of the new story that is available on my site:

She reached out and touched his arm ever so lightly, slowing moving from his forearm up to his broad shoulder.  They stared into each others eyes with so much intensity he could barely stand it.  Her fingers moving down his chest as his heart races and his breathing deepened.

He leaned in closer until their noses touched, and he felt her breath mixing with his.  Their lips touched and hers parted as she let out little moan.  Their tongues met, and he leaned over her as she rolled onto her back.  His shorts got tighter to the point of being uncomfortable, but he didn’t dare stop kissing her.  He felt her soft hands wandering around his chest, pausing every so slightly over his nipples before sliding towards his navel.

The whole story can be found in the members section of my site and is about strong, muscly man who meets a sexy paraplegic while camping.  I must warn you, this story gets very racy, and is adult rated!

Blind Quad Bed Making

Tagged Under : , , ,

A new 30 minute movie was added to my site yesterday.  I’ve had people ask me to do some movie of every day things, so I made a movie of me making the bed.  I thought you couldn’t get anymore “every day” than that!  I had washed the sheets, so I had to do a lot of work, from putting the sheets on the bed, putting pillow cases on, and putting the duvet back on the bed.

Once I was done arranging the mountain of pillows I had to lower myself down onto the floor to open the window and take my wheelchair apart and lift it over the bed so I could transfer back into it and leave the room!

I usually have to climb over the bed and around the floor while making the bed, but I couldn’t get the right angle for the video doing it that way and had to get on the opposite side.  I explain how I’m doing things even though I can’t see or feel what I’m doing, and at one point I fell over and wasn’t sure how I was going to get back up again.  It was a fun movie to make though!

Hope you enjoy it!

I really don’t like storms like this!

Tagged Under : ,

I just finished doing some video blogs that will be put on my site when they are edited.  When I came back to my computer I thought I heard thunder in the distance.  I checked the weather forecast on the internet and we have another severe thunderstorm watch.  We’ve had so many lately!  I don’t mind the thunder so much, but it says the potential for the development of a tornado also exists!  I get so stressed when I hear that!

When I lived in Atlanta I was always stressed out when it rained because there was always tornado watches and warnings, but once I moved back to Canada I thought these worries were over!  Apparently not though!  I don’t mind the rain or the wind or thunder and lightning, but the potential for tornadoes really bothers me.

It doesn’t help that there have been quite a few funnel clouds forming around here when it rains lately.  I’m really hoping nothing develops and the storms end really soon.  It always seems to happen at night too!

Shopping with Aphrodite

Tagged Under : , ,

After we did the Hidden Wheelchair movie we went to the store to buy a few things.  I deicded we should take along the camera and do a photo pack.

There are 25 photos in this pack.  I go down the sidewalk to the store, pick up the things we need, and go back down the sidewalk and home again.

I decide to leave my shoes at home because it was a nice warm day.  I also did this trip without my guide dog!  I listened to my trusty camerman instead.  He didn’t push me, but because it’s a simple trip I listened to the things around me and to where he was.  It was fun!  I managed to do my shopping and get back in onepiece, so we must have done something right!

This photo pack can be found in the members area of my site.  I hope you enjoy it!

Transfer Heaven

Tagged Under : , , ,

This was my favorite movie to make so far!  We decided to set up an obsticle course in the living room with furniture.  I had to transfer to the floor and up and over furtiture until I finished the circle and got back to my wheelchair.

I started off by transfering onto the floor before pulling myself up over the arm of a chair!  I then transfered back to the floor, pulled myself to an office chair that spins around.  You may recognize it from the Aphrodite’s iPod Shuffle movie.  Then I transfered over the arm of the couch, onto the floor, and back onto the couch again.

Once I was back on the couch I pulled myself up over the arm and onto another chair.  This part was tricky and I thought I was going to fall between them!  I made it though!  I then transfer back onto the floor and have to find my wheelchair.  My camerman decided to hide it on me!  After some moving around the floor I find it and pull myself back up into it!

This 30 minute movie has 11 transfers!  I was really tired once I was done.  I even had a few moments where I lost my balance!  A lot of work went into this movie and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it!  You can find it in the members area and in the store on my site.

Aphrodite On Deck

Tagged Under : , , ,

It was really windy the day we did this photo pack.  We went out on the terrace and took some photos of me moving around, and transfering onto one of the benches.  My hair kept blowing accross my face, and it was hard to transfer in the wind, but I did it.

It took a lot of energy to push against the wind on the way back inside!  You can’t control the weather though, so we worked with it.

I’m thinking of going out there and having a barbeque soon.  I’ll do another photo pack or movie when then.  There are also some interesting places out there to transfer to.

The photo pack has 21 photos and can be found in the members area of my site.  If you have any ideas for a photo pack or movie out there, please let me know!

Swimming With Aphrodite

Tagged Under : , , , , , , ,

I have always loved swimming and that hasn’t changed a bit since becoming a quad!  There’s something about the freedom I have when I’m in the water that nothing else compares to.

I guess it’s because I’m free and can move around without a wheelchair, or dragging parts of my body around.  I’m as free as everyone else when I’m in the water, and the parts of my body I can’t move or feel follows my head wherever I go with ease.

I decided to share this with you in this video.  I take you swimming with me!  I transfer into the hot tub and relax a bit.  This helps my tight leg muscles and shoulders relax before swimming.  Of course my legs keep floating to the surface of the water, and it’s hard to keep my arms from floating, but that don’t stop me from enjoying it.  Plus, it’s fun to tease my cameraman!

Once my muscles are relaxed enough I pull myself out over the edge of the hot tub, and down the stairs into the pool.  I do laps using a snorkel for awhile, with my paralyzed legs floating behind me.  I use the snorkel because I don’t have the muscle control to lift my head out of the water when I swim.  I can do it for a very short period of time, but it gets very tiring and I also don’t have “normal” lung capacity, so I can’t hold in a deep enough breath.  Oh the joys of being a quad.

When I’m done doing laps I transfer back up the stairs and get back into the hot tub to take a break.  While transfering out of the hot tub I get spasms in my leg and have to stop and wait for them to stop before getting out.  Then I get back into the pool and do something I haven’t been able to do since becoming a quad!  I do a back float, and it’s all in this movie!  I was so surprised because I haven’t been able to do it for so long.  I even did a backstroke for awhile!  I’m so glad I could share that moment with you!

I transfered out of the pool when I was done, and pulled myself up from the floor into my wheelchair.  It’s a lot harder when the floor is wet!  Then took the lift up to the change room.

This movie is 22 minutes long and can be found in the members area of my site, and in the store.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it!

Aphrodite at the Gym

Tagged Under : , , , , , ,

This photo pack has 34 photos and is availible in the members area of my site

I like stretching in the gym because there are mats to sit on, and it’s harder to move around on carpet.  I start off by lowering myself down onto the mats, being very careful not to touch the rubber floor.  I have a latex allergy, and touching the floor for even just a second will cause me to break out in a huge rash.  My throat gets sore if I’m in there too long, and sometimes given the right conditions it’s hard to breath when I go in there.  Most of the time it’s ok though.

I use the mats to do some stretching.  My muscles were very tight that day, but I managed to get in a couple of good leg stretches before stretching out my ankles, hips and back.

I then pulled myself back up into my wheelchair from the floor and headed over to the weight machines to lift some weights!  I have to use the ankle strap around my arm to lift weights because I can’t grip the regular hand grip.  This works out though, and I’m working on lifting more and more weight.  I think I’m pretty good for a quad.  Even if I do say so myself!  If I want to start racing I have to build up the muscle I can use, and this is a great way to start!
