What happens when you take a blind quad’s wheelchair apart and hide it? Come watch this movie and find out!
While I was listening to his iPod my “trusty cameraman” decided to play a trick on me. He took my wheelchair apart and hid the pieces all around the room! Of course I didn’t realize he was doing it even though he was right in front of me because I couldn’t see him. I had to play the blind quad version of hide-and-go-seek to find all the parts and put them together before going to the store. I should have known something was up when he gave me his iPod and noise canceling headphones!

Transfer Heaven

We set up a transfer obstacle course in the living room with furniture! It involved transferring onto and off of the floor, over things, and a lot of pulling myself across the floor. It was a lot of hard work, but so much fun and I was determined to finish it!
I did 11 transfers in total! I was so tired when I was done. I had a few near misses while transferring, but I completed it in a half hour! I even did a transfer over the arm of a chair from the floor! I’m not going to give away how I did it though. You’ll have to watch the movie to find out!

Swimming with Aphrodite

Have you ever seen a blind quadriplegic swim? If you haven’t here’s your chance! Come with me as I soak in the hot tub to relax my muscles a bit before having a swim. I transfer out of the hot tub and into the pool where I do some laps. Can you spot what I use to help me swim?
After doing the laps I realize that I can do a back float for the first time since becoming a quad! This was a huge surprise and it was all caught on video! You will get to see how excited I was and watch as I venture further away from the safety of the side of the pool. Once I am done swimming I transfer back into my wheelchair from the wet slippery floor and use the lift to get to the change room. I’ll be sure to do another movie or video blog of my backstroke progress soon!

Aphrodite's iPod Shuffle

We were having some thunder and lightning so I decided to get my iPod so I could listen to some music while I waited for the storm to pass. I went into the office to get it, but quickly realized it was out of reach. The only way to reach it was to transfer down onto the floor, pull myself under the desk and up into the office chair so I could reach the top of the desk! What a workout! I didn’t realize getting up into a chair that spins around would involve so much work!
Once I was in the chair and had the iPod I had to do the whole thing again in reverse! I also had to carry the iPod in a unique way. You’ll have to watch the movie to find out how! It made for an interesting night!

Aphrodite's Morning

This movie follows me throughout my morning. I wake up, push the covers off, and move all of the pillows so I can sit up and swing my legs over the side of the bed. I change into my robe, but realize I don’t have the belt! This means it’s still in the closet so I transfer down onto the floor being careful so my robe doesn’t come off to get it. Once I find it I transfer back up onto my bed and into my wheelchair before heading to the bathroom.
Once there I transfer onto my bath bench. This is one of the most difficult transfers I have to make! I can’t get at a good angle because the bathroom is so small, so it involves stopping at a 90 degree angle, and lifting my body over a gap while I turn! I’ve had a lot of near misses with this transfer! I have a nice shower before wrapping myself in a towel and transferring back into my wheelchair. Then I brush my teeth and hair and head back to the bedroom where I get back on the bed and change into a black shirt and a skirt. My legs are swollen so I also decide to put on my compression stockings. I wrestle my legs into them and transfer back into my wheelchair to go make breakfast.

Blind Quad Bed Making

I had stripped the bed and washed all of the sheets so I decided to do a video of me making the bed. This video was requested by a member and I was happy to do it for them! There is a lot of moving around the bed in this movie for the people who like that!
I had to start from the beginning and wrestle the fitted sheet over the mattress. Not an easy task! Then I put the pillow cases on the mountain of pillows before putting tucking the top sheet under the mattress and pulling the duvet back onto the bed. By the time I arranged the pillows I was so tired I wanted to lay down and take a break, but I still had to transfer down onto the floor to open the window! My work didn’t stop there! I had to take the wheels off my wheelchair and pull it across the bed to get it to the other side so I could leave the room!

Aphrodite In The Park

It was a really nice day and we decided to do a movie in the park, knowing that days like this wouldn't come by that often this time of year.

Aphrodite's Bubble Bath - PART ONE

My muscles were tight and I wanted to relax so I decided to have a nice hot bubble bath. To make things more interesting I decide to leave my wheelchair in the bedroom and drag myself across the floor to the bath tub. Once there I pull myself up onto the toilet and take off my pants so I’m wearing nothing but a white shirt and panties. I lift my legs over the side of the tub and carefully pull myself over the gap between the toilet and tub and down into the water. This is not an easy feat for a blind quad!
I wash my hair and body and shave my legs before pulling myself back over the edge of the deep soaker tub, and back onto the toilet. I then have to try to pick up the shampoo bottles I dropped on the floor. This isn’t an easy task when the bottles are wet and you have no grip! I then transfer down onto the floor, my wet t-shirt clinging to me and pull myself over to the cupboard to get some lotion for my legs. I rub on some lotion and pull myself out of the bathroom to go get dressed.

Aphrodite’s Bubble Bath Revisited – The Naked Truth

Prepare to see Aphrodite as you’ve never seen her before. In celebration of our new payment partner we filmed a rather special version of Aphrodite’s Bubble Bath movie.
In this movie, you’ll witness Aphrodite as she prepares to have a nice warm soak. Watch as she pulls her paralyzed body into the bathroom, struggles onto the toilet to undress ready to get into the tub.
